Windham’s urban downtown section, Willimantic, is the hub of northeastern Connecticut, Windham was incorporated in 1692. The city of Willimantic, incorporated in 1893, was consolidated with the town in July 1983. The town’s area is about 28 square miles. Windham has a first selectman/board of finance, town meetings and referendums. Windham is home to Eastern Connecticut State University and neighbor to the state’s flagship university, the University of Connecticut. The town also has a branch of the recently expanded Quinebaug Valley Community Technical College. Windham Regional Vocational Technical School also services the area offering both an academic and technical curriculum.
